I think we can have a separate topic to discuss this, as gc topic will be closed post completion.

There are lot of expectations post this GC and I hope we can discuss and have some consensus on minimum expectation post which someone like our member Mohan who has good contacts with reporters can get an article on this.

This will act as pressure esp for time table trains to be operated from day one post GC without the usual lack of planning-blaming on rake unavailability.

Let SR scout for rakes now itself. they have six months time to do it. They will also have a few trains more in this budget. we may see a mdu train via mainline with the madurai stongman attempting an image makeover.

Because of the inordinate delay in Main line GC conversion the slots of Main line trains have been provided to trains running on the Chord line. These slots should be restored for the trains on Main line once Main line GC is completed. Post GC Main line should have the following trains. Of course there are lot of constraints such as availability of rakes, path and slots. But these are the genuine requirements of the region which should be looked into by SR.

1. Cholan Express from MS - Trichy via VM, MV and TJ

Since it provides the much needed day time connectivity between MS and South Arcot/Delta districts. It also provides connectivity between Trichy and South Arcot/Delta districts. For maximum patronage it will be beneficial to retain its MG timings and stops. There are many small towns in the Main line and it is imperative that it has stoppages in all those towns. It should be an ordinary express and should provide connectivity to originating trains at both Chennai as well as Tiruchy.

2. Rameswaram Express from MS - Rameswaram via VM, MV, TJ, TPJ, DG, MDU, MNM, RMD

This train is the BG avatar of the erstwhile Boat Mail. The most patronage for this train was from the composite Thanjavur district. So it should have convenient timings in both the Up/Down direction. This train could be routed via Madurai as there are already 2 trains to Rameswaram from
Chennai in the PDK, KKDI route. This will not only provide connectivity from Chennai to delta districts but also provide day time connectivity between delta districts and Madurai/Rameswaram. This train could be made to depart from MS after 11 PM so that it will reach CDM around 4.30 AM, MV - 5.30 AM, KMU - 6.15 AM and TJ around 7.15 AM, TPJ - 8.30 AM, MDU - 11 AM and RMM - 2 PM. This train will cater mostly for the intermediate passengers rather than the EEP's. In the return direction it can start from RMM at 3 PM, MDU - 6 PM, TPJ - 8.30 PM, TJ - 9.45 PM, MV - 11.15 PM, CDM - 12 Midnight and MS - 6 AM.

3. Chendur Express from MS - Tiruchendur via, VM, MV, TJ, TPJ, DG, MDU, VPT, TN, TCN

This train will provide evening connectivity from MS to South Arcot/Delta and overnight connectivity between South Arcot/Delta and Southern districts. In the return direction this train should provide evening connectivity between Southern dictricts to Delta/South Arcot and overnight
connection between Delta and MS. This should be a combination of II SL and II CC as the patronage is likely to be both EEP and as well as intermediate. Once guage conversion is completed this train can be re-routed via VM, MV, TJ, TPJ, KKDI, MNM, VPT,TN, TCN.

4. Nagore Express from MS - Nagore/Karaikal via VM, MV, TJ, TVR, NGT, NCR, KIK

This train will provide overnight connectivity between MS and Tiruvarur/Nagapattinam districts and the Union Territory of Karaikal. This should have stoppages at COT, CDM, MV, KMU, TJ, NDM, TVR, NGT, NCR and KIK. It should provide comfortable timings to NDM, TVR, NGT, NCR and KIK in both the Up/Down direction as this train is basically meant for them. Once gauge conversion is completed in the MV-TVR section this train should be re-routed via VM, MV, TVR, NGT, NCR and KIK.

5. Nagore Fast Passenger from SBC - Nagore/KIK via HSRA, SA, VRI, NYL, COT, CDM, MV, KMU, TJ, NDM, TVR, NGT, NCR, KIK.

This should also have stops in small towns such as Panruti, Nellikuppam, Kollidam, Kutralam, Aduthurai, Papanasam, Sikkil etc. It could start from SBC at 4 PM and reach MV at 6AM and NCR/KIK at 8.30 AM. In the return direction it could start at NCR/KIK at 4 PM and reach SBC at 8 AM. Once MV - TVR gauge conversion is over this train should be re-routed accordingly.

6. Thanjavur Fast Passenger from MS - Thanjavur via VM, MV, KMU

The MG avatar of this passenger had huge patronage from South Arcot/Delta districts. This should be scheduled as the last service from MS and should reach MV by 6.30 AM and TJ by 8 AM. In the same way it should be last train for the day from TJ so as to reach MS by 8 AM the next day.

7. Palghat Fast Passenger from Nagore/KIK - Palghat via NGT, TVR, TJ, MV, CDM, COT, VRI, SA, ED, CBR

This train will provide connectivity between Delta and Kerala. From Palghat they can change trains in the TVC/Malabar for further travel to other cities/towns in Kerala. This will also provide connectivity between Delta and Erode/Coimbatore overnight and first time connectivity between
CDM and COT with ED, CBR and PGT. This should be an overnight express between Delta and Coimbatore/Kerala as there is a Jan Shatabdi between Coimbatore and MV during the day time.

8. Restoration of Meenkshi Express and extension to TVC via Main Line and Madurai.

This should provide a convenient connection from TVC/TN/MDU to Trichy/TJ/MV and TPTY

9. Extension of the Tea Garden Express to NCR/KIK as per the budget

10. Weekely connectivity to Hyderabad/New Delhi/Mumbai/Kolkatta with reasonable timings for Delta passengers

I have thus summarized the aspirations of the Delta districts post Main Line GC. The Delta region being the rice bowl of TN was once a rich place. Because of failure of monsoons and inadequate availability of Cauvery water the region agriculture has failed and the region has become impoverished and has lost its prominence. It is the responsibility of the TN Govt and SR to ensure that the region gets its due share which will eventually help in the development of the region as a whole.

Dear members

In addition to the above list " Thiruppathi Express" should also be restored as VPM-KPD GC works are also getting over more or less same time.
Definitely SR will have huge problem in managing rakes, getting additional rakes etc., but people of Delta dsitricts have enjoyed better and resonable connectivity during MG era. With the changing scenario the region deserves even more better connectivity and not just reinstatement of affected services due to GC works

Kumar,

Thats the Minakshi express.

Also on PGTpassenger, I do not support it. I have instead proposed a ncr-maq express.

Also if passenger is needed, I would say let it wait, mv-tvr gc and dg-poy gc. The best route for passenger would be ncr-mv-tpg-dg-poy-pgt.

ML areas need to be innovative and ask for new connections. Anyways my feel is once dg-poy gc is over, we will have ms-ml-plni-poy-pgt train for cdm sirkazhi connection to pgt.

Welcome to the forum, Mr. baskarven.

Good capture of the prime expectations of ML. Couple of my comments:

- NCR-SBC FP via VRI-NVL-CUPJ will not touch PRT, Nellikkuppam.

- I would not recommend extending Meenakshi Express beyond MDU, being a major tourist centre. For South destinations, 6351/6352 may be complemented with a bi-weekly or tri-weekly new service via CL.

- I would also add 811/812 to the list, by extending it to MS or TBM, as it was in MG days.

Cheers,
Raj

Dear Raj,

In all probability Minakshi express will be extended in bg avatar and will run upto RMM.

Niranjan,

Then people will ask it to by-pass MDU. Laughing

RMM-TPTY and MDU-TPTY train needs are different, it cannot be clubbed as it not going to be a long distance train like to New Delhi or Dwaraka or Varanasi.

All the needs cannot be fullfilled by train. Surely there is a need of two trains to TPTY for central and south TN.

Let us see which Mumbai trains are going to skip TPTY once Dharmavaram-Pakala line open up.

A large number of people travelling every day from Tiruvarur to Chennai have to depend only on bus service, as there is no direct train. I request the Railways to introduce an express train from Tiruvarur to Chennai via Nidamangalam, Thanjavur and Tiruchi immediately.

Baby M. Venkataraman,

Mannargudi.

As of now there is one express in ms-ncr and rmm express.

6735 when made daily almost makes up needs for replacement of an afternoon train previously run to rmm.

But with travelling people increasing bounds in the years, therefore there is a need for another night train to these places to replaces the two pasenger sets, and therefore i think a slow express apart from the one to ncr must be operaated to thanjavur. I think this slow express can skip all stations between tbm and vm, and then stop in many places in vm-tj.

That should take care if requiremnets from ms for this area.

what would be needed is passenger sets from vm and cupj.

I read your post with lot of interest.

All are already announced as new trains or extensions in budget. Except 5, all trains will be coming after mainline conversion. S No - 5 May take 2011.

6 - I lost hope atleast on restoration of passenger trains. It will be good if atleast one pass is introduced

7... Are you serious with the route proposed

Restoration of meenakshi will happen as SCR is interested in a train. This was discussed last year but the route VM - KPD was not ready then and hence this idea was dropped. This train is sure slot in any of the coming or next budget in my view

For hyderabad I would prefer extension of MS - Kacheguda express to Madurai via mainline. Rest all metros needs weekly connection to mainline towns

Let me list the passengers that are required between MV and VM. We heard that only 2 pairs of MV - VM passengers is going to run. But stretch atleast needs 4 pairs. 2 in MV - VM and 1 each in MV - TDPR and CUPJ - VM. This is bare minimum requirement. Bolded stretch is for annamalai students(and couple of this pairs could be DEMU)

MV 0615 CDM 0730 CUPJ 0830 and VM 0945
VM 1445 CUPJ 1545 CDM 1650 and MV 1800

MV 1545 CDM 1650 TDPR 1805
TDPR 1815 CDM 1920 and MV 2030

MV 17 45 CDM 1850 CUPJ 2000 VM 2110
VM 0530 CUPJ 0645 CDM 0750 and MV 0900

VM 07 30 and CUPJ 0845
CUPJ 1800 and VM 1910

This I am carefully excluding the less patronized stretches and also out of office and university timings and also easy for Rake sharing

Hi,

Earlier in MG there used to be two convenient Main Line Passengers trains from MS .

1. MS - Shencottah Pass via Main Line.
2. MS - Thanjavur Pass via Main Line.

These were convenient overnight connections for those going to Chidambaram, Mayiladuthurai, Kumbakonam and Thanjavur.

These were highly patronised trains and as such S.Rly should consider introducing these trains. These trains used leave Egmore/Tambaram late in the night. As such time slots were convenient.

Sengottai passenger used to leave around 9:50 pm and Thanjavur passenger used to leave around 10:30 pm. Both these slots from MS are not available. So, we have to forget both these passenger trains from Madras Egmore. If more demands come, SR may consider operating both services from Tambaram.

Technically also, in the present situation it is not possible because, for operating Sengottai passenger, min. 3 rakes of 16 coaches are needed and for Thanjavur passenger, 2 rakes of 16 coaches is needed.

If we observe the present way SR is operating trains, idle time of almost all rakes were totally minimised with the concept of RSA and with this situation, getting 5 rakes for 2 passengers, total of 90 coaches, with this, SR may operate some good express service.

So, let us forget this service.

Thanks

Dear Swami,

when I opened this topic itself i stressed the importance of discussing the needs of mainline before completion, and put pressure on SR through e-mails, getting the associations to make this request, writing e-mails to mp's of chidambaram, mv and rajya sabha mp and minister with native place in TJ. Only then it will work. There is no point keeping silent and then lamenting. Demanding after line opens will be foolish. The demand and pressure has to start right from now.

Dear Swami,

I has suggested instead of

109 / 110 Trichy Passenger that departed TBM at 21:40 and arrived 6:35 and 627/628 that departed tbm 22:45 and arrived tbm 3:45, an express to TJ. For sake of places like tiruverumbur may be it can have run till tpj with 60 seats in quota. but it would have to start late from ms with stops at mbm, tbm,vm and then reqd mainline stops.

21.40 06.35
627 / 628 Thanjavur Passenger
Dly.
22.45 03.45

Dear Niranjan,

Upto the period of trial run between VM and CUPJ, one was not sure about the possible date of completion. Only after this, one could think of completion of this GC and services thereafter.

And that trial run gave me the enthusiasm to make two status checks.

We have talked much about these two passengers. These were popular, well patronised.

These are considered as primary benefits.

After the completion of Main Line GC there are two things that accrue out of this GC:

1. Primary benefits 2. Secondary benefits.

All the trains that existed during MG era should be restored first. This is the Primary one. Primarily to connect all the places of main line with state capital with comfortable timings.

Ex: (Night services) Nagore, Boat Mail, Exp to TPJ, Pass to TJ (This is minimum). Day-Cholan

Nagore is a train for MV and all the places between MV and NCR through Peralam, TVR, NGT etc and even for passengers between TVR and TTP. Since path is not available it is routed through TJ, and in this process, MV-NCR share may be taken by TJ-KMU passengers to some extent. A formula has to be worked out for this. And for this purpose an overnight express upto TPJ is essential. This will serve the double purpose of terminating Rockfort at TPJ.

By secondary benefits, I mean the services that run through Main Line. Here the benefits that accrue from those trains will be very less, more in respect of overnight trains.

1. First, the primary benefits arising out of GC of this project should reach main line passengers. And they are eagerly waiting for this for the past 32 months.

2. They will welcome secondary benefits so long as they do not spoil the chances of services that give primary benefits. Those services should be in addition to the services that give primary benefits and not in lieu of them. SR may cleverly do that.
