Dear Dilip,

Can we locate the old NG line between krihnagiri-rayakottai in google earth or any other way?

NG line existed between tiruppattur and krishnagiri and not beyond. To make this line successful it needs to touch SA - HSRA line and for that rayakkottai is the best location due to short distance(less than 20 kms) and also avoid the gradients

Dilip one of your wishes seems to be coming true.

Hosur: Finally there seems to be light at the end of the tunnel for the decade-old Hosur-Jolarpet rail link project. The Ministry of Railways has ordered a re-survey to examine the feasibility of laying a new railway line betweenHosur and Jolarpet via Krishnagiri.

The district headquarters has no rail connectivity barring the network of national highways connecting Bangalore and other major cities. The present rail link in the district traverses through Rayakottai and Hosur to reach Bangalore. To board a train the residents have to travel to Jolarpet junction.

Realising its importance, a satellite survey was undertaken in 1998 on providing a rail link between Jolarpet and Hosur and approval was also given for the project. The total cost of the project then worked out to Rs.147 crore. But, when the Union Government was dissolved that year, the project was also shelved. “The decision of the Railways Ministry has revived the hopes of the people of this district on the project,” says former MP Narasimhan.

Hi,
Tiruvannamalai -Jolarpet rail link project
I am new to this forum and like to know the update for the below project. I heard sometime back that state govt did n't give 50% contribution for this project. But later just couple of weeks back, seems like state govt approved this project.
I have asked Railway more details but interested to know if you have any updates on this.

Regards,
Anbu.

The Railways had sent proposals for five new rail link schemes Needamangalam-Pattukottai, Tiruvannamalai-Jolarpet, Dindigul-Kumuli, Ariyalur-Thanjavur and Morapur-Dharmapuri in Tamil Nadu to the Planning Commission for its approval, according to R. Velu, Minister of State for Railways.

http://www.hindu.com/2008/08/18/stories/2008081859990700.htm Dt Monday, Aug 18, 2008

but when asked about this from Srailway official ( Dec 2008) , it is understood that it has not been sent to Planning Commission. Which version of the information will be true?

What does it mean? If it was not sent to Planning Commission, is this line is ON or OFF or HOLD??

Good move! I would suggest TVM-Samalpatti or TVM-Morappur. Samalpatti is the point where TVM-Krishnagiri highway (NH-66) crosses MAS-JTJ-SA FEDL.

Any idea of connecting Bommidi and DP which are pretty close to each other?

Cheers,
Raj

Dear KSR,

For me this looks to be the best idea than linking to JTJ. Linking via JTJ would be impossible as the Yelagiri hills separates JTJ/Thirupattur and TVM region. Even bus route from Thirupattur to Thiruvanamalai should be via Vishamangala Singarapettai on NH 66. So most likely TVM-JTJ should merge at Samalpatti

Hosur-Thiruvanamalai on the alignment of NH 66 via Krish, Samalpatti, Uthangarai will be 160KM, so TVM-Bangalore distance will be less than 220KM.

Hosur-Samalpatti will be around 85KM, Samalpatti-Salem is 89KM, Hosur-Bangalore is 58KM Bangalore-Salem via Samalpatti, Krish will come around 232KM!!

This will form various new route from Bangalore to North east TN and towards Salem for further connecting down.

Hosur-Chennai via Krishnagiri, Samalpatti will be 330KM!! I think your suggestion is best for connecting Bangalore with TVM side, alternate route for Salem and shorter connection to Hosur!

And another advantage is!!

Coimbatore/Erode/Salem will be connected to TVM is very shorter way.

Now via VM Salem-TVM will be nearly 300KM.

The above line will open a link from western TN to TVM via Samalpatti and distance from SA to TVM will be 165KM approx!

whow single line could do lot of wonders!

Samalpatti-Uttangarai will be just 8KM, so why railways want to connect it to Thirupattur?

Samalpatti-Thirupattur and Uttangarai-Thirupattur route will run almost parallel!

For than I suggest lay 3rd line between Thirupattur and Samalpatti and link Samalpatti with TVM.
