Please go thro the charts below. I request members to express their comments about the huge nuimbmer of vacancies in these trains. What is surprising is the fact that Kamban goes with lots of vacanicies to a place leading to Veilankani, where there is a congregation , with specials even from Dadar and Goa. Is it because August is a lean month as for as Rlys are concerned?

Dear KPC sir,
There were 2 extra sleeper coaches ES1 and ES2 attached to 6175 on sunday night i.e. August 29, 2010.
But i did not check the status yesterday.
This was the reason for lots of vacancies I surmise. |

Valuable statistical information from Mr Chidhambaram. The list does not contain Jalarpet,Tirupattur, among the more important stations left out in the list.
As a Mainline user, I see the absence of any town on the Mainline in this list, apart from those in Bangalore belt!! Anyhow, the effort is laudable and my congratulations to Mr Chidambaram. |

Great effort Chidambarm. Kudos to you for taking such steps to collect stats. It shows coimbatore topped the list as i would say katpadi is like a satellite town of chennai. The major cities in TN like madurai, trichy(my hometown) have above thousand avg travellers including salem. _________________ regards,

Dear Chidambaram,
Thanks for the efforts and sharing the interesting info about UR tickets from MAS/MS to various places.
Nice to see the 4 major cities of TN attracting almost the same numbers over 1000 per day.
KPD rocks the list - in spite of VLR connected well by buses.
TEN stands out among the long-distance towns (over 500kms). VM - pretty low than expected may be due to buses. TMV, PDY and VRI are not likely to do any better.
Though not listed, we can expect good numbers from JTJ, SBC, TPTY, GDR etc.
In future, TVM, ML towns should also see increase in numbers.
Cheers,
Raj |

In VPM,DGL and TEN , One section closed due to GC. They may add more if they also in use. MDU number also go up if DGL-POY route in use. _________________ Raghu |

Dear Chidambaram,
Great efforts !! Nowadays, it seems you & vasanth, have taken the bandwagon from nishanth reg. RTI activities. Good to see this trio bringing out as much details using RTI. I am sure other folks are also doing it.
Well, KPC sir, since this data is for year 2009-10, Main line was not in operation. So, if someone ventures out to get data for ML, for 2010-11, ML town statistics can be out.
Well, going for interpretation of data from the statistics given by chidambaram, I can say KPD and CBE & SA have a good share of UR tickets from MAS due to the prime reason of availability of many day time trains. As it is the culture of our people to do Unreserved journey during day times and prefer reserved journey during nights. ( It must not be construed that advanced reservation is not at all made for day time trains)
Its just my interpretation.
bye & cheers,
ravi |

Great statistics Chidambaram.
The statistics simply shows Katpadi needs direct express train from Beach/Central/Egmore to Vellore.
Srirangam, Salem Town like station will contribute good no. of travelers from Egmore.
And I guess statistics excludes Tambaram station patronage to the above station. As of now Tambaram may produce atleast 50 UR ticket in each express train. _________________ Arul

Great effort Dear Chidambaram,
I can't believe, does TEN get around 600 people only?!?!
Nellai alone will carry more than 300 people to TEN and it has GUV, KK, AP...
It seems very less... |

That was the status yesterday night. We could not get exact number oif berths falling vacant at the time of departure of trains , as we get the "charting done" report for most trains.
I am giving this picture to members, because, I felt study of this train and Kamban express will provide some clue regarding o the impact of additional coaches in the Kamban exp. A few days ago, Icould give a picture of both trains , when there were more than 100 vacncies in each of them. Such vacancies, I feel, will seriously affect the prospects of S.Rly running additional O/N trains on the mainline. |
