பொள்ளாச்சி: கோவை - திண்டுக்கல் அகல ரயில்பாதை திட்டத்துக்கு, இந்தாண்டு நிதி ஒதுக்கப் படாததால், பொள்ளாச்சி - திண்டுக்கல் வரை அகல ரயில்பாதையாக மாற்றும் பணிகள் துவங்குவது பாதிக்கப்பட்டுள்ளது. இதனால், இப்பகுதிகளுக்கு இடையே ரயில் போக்குவரத்து ரத்து செய்வது ஒத்திவைக்கப்பட்டுள்ளது. தமிழகத்தில், பொள்ளாச்சி - திண்டுக்கல் - பாலக்காடு - போத்தனூர் வரையிலான ரயில்வே பகுதியில் மிக நீண்ட தூரம் (224 கி.மீ.,) மீட்டர் கேஜ் ரயில்பாதைகள் உள்ளன. இப்பாதைகளை அகல ரயில்பாதையாக மாற்ற வேண்டும் என்பது அனைத்து தரப்பு மக்களின் கோரிக்கையாக இருந்து வருகிறது. முக்கிய நகரங்களை இணைக்கும் முக்கிய வழித்தடமாகவும், தொழில் வளர்ச்சி, விவசாய வளர்ச்சிக்கு அகல ரயில்பாதையாக மாற்ற வேண்டும் என இப்பகுதி மக்கள் பல்வேறு போராட்டங்கள் நடத்தினர்.
தொழில் அமைப்புகள் இக்கோரிக்கையை மத்திய அரசிடம் தீவிரமாக வலியுறுத்தியது. இதையடுத்து, மத்திய ரயில்வே பட்ஜெட்டில், கடந்த 2007ம் ஆண்டு ரூ. 30 கோடியும், 2008ம் ஆண்டு ரூ. 65 கோடி நிதியும் ஒதுக்கப்பட்டது. இதில், தற்போது ரூ. 88 கோடி மட்டுமே கையிருப்பு உள்ளது. இந்நிதியை, கொண்டே தற்போது திட்டப் பணிகள் துவங்கப்பட்டுள்ளன.
கோவை - திண்டுக்கல் அகல ரயில்பாதை திட்டப்பணிகள் இரு பிரிவுகளாக பிரிக்கப்பட்டு பணிகள் மேற்கொள்ளப்பட்டு வருகின்றன. பொள்ளாச்சி - பாலக்காடு - போத்தனூர் வரையிலான பணிகளை பாலக்காடு கோட்டம் சார்பிலும், திண்டுக்கல் - பொள்ளாச்சி வரையிலான பணிகள் மதுரை கோட்டம் சார்பிலும் மேற்கொள்ள திட்டமிடப்பட்டுள்ளது.
பொள்ளாச்சி - பாலக்காடு வரையில் திட்டப்பணிகளை மேற்கொள்ள பாலக்காடு கோட்டத்துக்கு, கடந்த மே மாதம் ரூ. 10 கோடி நிதி ஒதுக்கப்படுவதாக அறிவித்தும், இதுவரை முழுமையாக நிதி ஒதுக்கப்படாமல் உள்ளது. துவங்கப்பட்ட பணிகளும் மந்தமாக மேற்கொள்ளப்பட்டு வருகிறது.
இந்நிலையில், மதுரை கோட்டத்திற்கு உட்பட்ட பொள்ளாச்சி - திண்டுக்கல் வரையிலான பகுதிகளில் விரைவில் திட்டப்பணிகள் துவங்க திட்டமிடப்பட்டுள்ளது. இதற்காக, மார்ச் 1ம் தேதி முதல் இப்பகுதிகளுக்கு இடையே ரயில் போக்குவரத்து ரத்து செய்யப்படும் என, தெற்கு ரயில்வே அறிவித்தது. இந்நிலையில், தொடர்ந்து இந்த ஆண்டு ரயில்வே பட்ஜெட்டில் நிதி ஒதுக்காததாலும், ஒதுக்கிய நிதியை விடுவிக்காததாலும் நிதி பற்றாக்குறை ஏற்பட்டுள்ளது.
தற்போது, போதியளவு நிதி இல்லாததால், பணிகள் துவங்குவதில் சிக்கல் ஏற்பட்டுள்ளது. பணிகள் பாதிக்கப்படும் நிலை ஏற்பட்டுள்ளதால், திட்டத்துக்கு போதியளவு நிதி ஒதுக்கும்படி, மத்திய அரசை வலியுறுத்த ரயில்வே சங்கங்கள் திட்டமிட்டுள்ளன.
இதன் காரணமாக, பொள்ளாச்சி - திண்டுக்கல் இடையே ரயில் போக்குவரத்து ரத்து செய்வது ஒத்திவைக்கப்பட்டுள்ளது. ரயில் போக்குவரத்து ரத்து செய்வது குறித்து அறிவிப்புகள் வரும் வரை பொள்ளாச்சி - திண்டுக்கல் பகுதியில் வழக்கம் போல் ரயில்களை இயக்கும்படி அறிவுறுத்தப்பட்டுள்ளது. இதனால், பொள்ளாச்சியில் இருந்து திண்டுக்கல்லுக்கு இயக்கப்படும் ரயில்கள் வழக்கம் போல் அதே நேரத்தில் இயக்கப்படும் என, ரயில்வே துறையினர் தெரிவித்தனர். |

It states that since, adequate funds are not allotted, the GC works from Dindigul to Pollachi-PGT/PTJ has been suspended.
The news further states that after repeated requests by various organizations for taking up this GC, it was announced in 2007 year railway budget. About 30 cr in 2007 and 65 crores in 2008 were allotted for this GC. DG - POY GC is to be done by MDU division and POY - PTJ GC is to be undertaken by Palakkad division.
It was decided to cancel MG traffic from 1st of March 2009, to take up GC works, but since no funds were allotted in this year's interim budget, the concerned divisions of SR, i.e., MDU and PGT have announced that until further orders are issued, MG trains would continue to be operated in DG-POY-PTJ sections.

Dear friends,
This is very disappointing. But the postponement is mentioned only for DG-POY section (MDU divn) and there is no clear mention about POY-PTJ section progress or closure. Any chances of POY-PTJ progressing faster - by PGT and SA divisions?

Dear Raj & Members,
According to me, We have to wait till next FULL budget for 2009-10 to initiate the Project from DG end towards Pollachi.
My assumption is Once MDU stops services so PGT will ... But Conversion would take place only after completion of PGTN-POY then it will proceed futher towards PTJ.
Let us wait for couple of months (though it is very bad since we have been waiting for more than 3 years after project announcement made) to get clear picture of this GC Project.

Its really sad to see that Railway authorities are dragging their feet on this important GC. But as a Railfan I would be happy with a working MG line. I recently went in that line for a small distance. Some photos for you

In the 30-03-2009 Dinamalar CBE edition, there is a news regarding the project of building ROB at Udumalaipettai (DG-POY-PTJ) and associated traffic arrangements. The project may start on MAY 2009.

Hi Saba_iitm,
I have a few doubts in this conversion. Is this the line that goes through Palani ? Sorry I have not travelled much in this route .. as there werent any major express trains at all.. Correct me if I am wrong. What are the various places covered in this route ? Is it Dindugal, Ottanchatram, Palani,Udumalpet, Pollachi, Kinathukadavu, Kovai ?
I beleive the Kovai to Palakkad is already a double line with broad gauge and electrified ? Why should they convert this line again ? Is it a third line that would be converted ? Or do we have a bifurcation from Pollachi that goes into Kerala and enters Palakkad ? Were any major express trains run on this sector ? Are trains still operating on this route ? Please detail as I am very much eager to know about this route. Does this by anyway come near that Madurai Bodi Nayakkarnur line ? Is there a plan to link these lines ? Do comment. Thanks

பொள்ளாச்சி : பொள்ளாச்சி - பாலக்காடு அகலரயில்பாதை திட்டப்பணிக்காக, அம்பராம்பாளையம் ஆற்றின் குறுக்கே உள்ள ரயில்வே பாலத்திலிருந்த " தண்டவாளம்' அகற்றப்பட்டுள்ளன.பொள்ளாச்சி - பாலக்காடு இடையே உள்ள ரயில் பாதையின் அம்பராம்பாளையம் ஆற்றின் குறுக்கே ரயில்வே பாலம் உள்ளது. ஆங்கிலேயர் காலத்தில் கட்டப்பட்ட இப்பாலம் கம்பீரமாக காட்சி தந்தது. இந்நிலையில், பொள்ளாச்சி - பாலக்காடு வரையிலான பகுதியில் அகலரயில்பாதை திட்டப்பணிகள் நடந்து வருகின்றன. இதில், முதல்கட்டமாக, இப்பகுதிகளுக்கு இடை யே அமைக்கப்பட்டிருந்த தண்டவாளங்கள் அகற்றபட்டு, பாதைகளை சமப்படுத்தும் பணிகள் நடந்து வருகிறது. இதில், அம்பராம்பாளையம் ஆற்றின் குறுக்கே உள்ள ரயில்வே பாலத்திலிருந்து தண்டவாளங்கள் அகற்றப்பட்டு விட்டன. தண்டவாளங்கள் இல்லாமலும் இப்பாலம் அழகாக காட்சியளிக்கிறது. "மீண்டும் இருப்பு பாதைகள் அமைக்கும் போது, பாலத்தின் தூண் முகப்புகளை சற்று அகலமாக்கி, தண்டவாளங்கள் அமைக்கப்படும். இதனால்,பாலத்திற்கு எவ்வித சேதமும் ஏற்படாது' என ரயில்வே அதிகாரிகள் தெரிவித்தனர்.
Dear Members,
After a Very long time, I got something to update. The Tracks on the Aliyar Bridge near Ambaraampalayam removed. for GC. Officers said the pillers would get widened to accommodate new BG Tracks.

Dear Aravind,
As you said, Palakkad - Coimbatore - Erode is nearly a fully electrified double line. ( Except few kms from Podanur to CBE and from CBF to Irugur where works are on for a long time to make it fully electrfied double line.)
The MG line is from Madurai to Coimbatore is now upto Podanur.( As Podanur to CBE MG line stretch is being converted to get fully electrfied double line) Also, at Pollachi, it takes a deviation and enters Kerala via Kollengode, Pudunagaram to Palakkad town and then to Palakkad jn.
Hitherto there were no express trains operated in Palakkad - Pollachi - Madurai route. But, important trains such as PGT - Rameswaram passenger etc were operated. From Coimbatore to Madurai, in MG there was an important train namely 6715/16 CBE -Rameswaram express and 6707/08 CBE- Madurai express and good no. of passenger trains giving cheap, good connectivity between Madurai & CBE.
Reg. Bodinaickanur, we can discuss in appropriate folder for easy follow up.

Dear Members,
When i travelled on April 1st from Udumalpet(UDT) to Palani(PLNI) to visit Lorg Muruga, i could see large collection of ballast dumped throughout the stretch. So, we can hope that the Gauge Conversion works will start at the earliest as possible.
