The engine and three coaches of Erode bound Yercaud Express derailed at Arakkonam near here, Southern Railway officials said on Monday.

Nobody was injured in the late last night’s incident, they said.

Some services had been immediately diverted.

Yercaud Express later left for its onward journey today morning following restoration work and was running late nearly by five hours, officials added.

However, the mishap resulted in the delay of about 18 trains arriving Chennai.

The delays ranged between 30—120 minutes, they said.

Track restoration work was on and it was expected to be completed by this afternoon, Southern Railway officials said.

http://www.thehindu.com/news/cities/Mangalore/two-coaches-of-chennai-mangaluru-express-derail-near-mangaluru-central-station/article18465387.ece/amp/

Two coaches, including the generator van coach of Chennai-Mangaluru Central Express derailed after jumping the shunting neck when it was being shunted towards the pit line near Mangaluru Central Railway Station on Tuesday noon.

Since the train (Train No. 12685) was being shunted for maintenance, there were no passengers and hence no injuries. The incident occurred at around 11.55 a.m. as the train was being reversed in speed beyond the prescribed limits, sources in Southern Railway said.

While the line to the maintenance yard was blocked due to the incident, officials were worried about operation of other trains. However, within an hour, empty coaches, except the two that had got derailed, were removed.

Workers attending the mishap were of the opinion that it would take at least two days to remove the derailed coaches as the generator van had climbed on the earth which was at a higher level.

Railway sources said operation of other trains to and from Mangaluru Central remained unaffected.

Meanwhile, the Mangaladevi Road, abutting the mishap spot, witnessed traffic jam as hundreds of curious people thronged the spot to have a look at the derailed coaches.

Fire Force and Emergency Services Personnel rushed to the spot as diesel from generator van’s tank began leaking. There was no untoward incident however.

Sep 18 2017 : The Times of India (Kochi)
Mudslide disrupts train services
Kottayam
TIMES NEWS NETWORK

Rail services were disrupted for three hours along the Kottayam-Changanassery stretch, following mudslides due to heavy rain on Sunday . The incident happened near the railway overbridge at Poovanthuruthu near Chingavanam after huge pieces of granite, mud and stones fell on the tracks from the wall constructed to strengthen the bridge around 10.30am.

All trains passing through Kottayam were delayed. Kerala Express was halted at Kottayam, Sabari Express at Changanassery, Kollam-Ernakulam Memu at Chingavanam and KochuveliMumbai Garib Rath at Thiruvalla for over an hour. Services were restored by 1pm.

The Guruvayur-Edamon passenger train, which came soon after the mudslide, rammed the debris, making a loud grinding noise. A major tragedy was averted since the train had reduced its speed as it was approaching Chingavanam station.

Delays in train services between SRR-TVC upto sep 30th.

Even though maintenances can be done by regulating speed this time it has been decided to stop service for few hours and do maintenace for speedy completion

Due to frequent rail accidents in the past few days railways has decided to speed up the repair of issues found in this section after MAQ express derailment.
